waves UNIT

OVERVIEW

Waves and Their Applications is a four-lesson unit of study that allows students to develop a model of waves to describe patterns in terms of amplitude and wavelength and that waves can cause objects to move. In lesson #1, students investigate that waves carry energy and explore different types of waves. In lesson #2, students gain an understanding that light reflecting from an object and entering the eye allows objects to be seen. In lesson #3, students use materials and tools to design and build a device that uses light or sound to solve the problem of communicating over a distance. In lesson #4, students use what they have learned about waves to design, build, and test a musical instrument.
